The Islamic Opposition made up of  Hamas and Islamic Jihad, both designated terrorist organizations by the State Department, has obtained a Platform in the Official Palestinian Authority (PA) MEDIA.

At a time when the whole world assumes that the Palestinian Authority is at odds with Islamic Jihad and the Hamas, the PA - controlled newspaper dailies have become a forum for threats against Israel by the Islamic opposition with impunity.

For the first time since the establishment of the PA in 1994, PA-controlled dailies are serving the role of publicizing statements by Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Statements by both groups are prominently published in PA-owned  newspapers. No longer are videos of hooded terrorists the norm, now it's in the mainstream press.

On December 16, one such major newspaper, Al Quds, featured a major article that quoted Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal as saying that his movement would join in any Iranian war against Israel. The article quoted Mashaal in Teheran as saying that Hamas would respond to any Israeli attack on the Islamic republic also.

On the same day, the same paper, reflecting a claim by Islamic Jihad regarding its new military prowess in attacking Israel, carried an Islamic Jihad statement about the fact it had fired a missile into Ashkelon.

On December 18th, the PA-owned newspaper Al Hayat Al Jadeeda reported that several of the Palestinian "military organizations" agreed that the so-called period of calm would expire at the end of 2005. Exhortations to war are the norm and the western media knows nothing about itnor bothers to report it.

Palestinian dailies have also been taking advertisements from Hamas supporters. On December 18th again, Al Ayyam placed a large ad with the picture of the late Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin.  The ad congratulated Hamas for its victory in municipal elections in Nablus. "Islam is the answer," and "The hand builds and the hand resists." Does this mean war looms instead of peace?

The question is this: shall the U.S. sit idly by while the Palestinian Authority gives greater control to admitted terrorists in its midst contrary to US policy and in support of an impending war in the future with Iran? Only time will tell if these actions, completely ignored, one day set the world on fire.
